Dingell Reiterates Call for Affordable Health Care
EBRI Survey Finds Americans Unhappy with
Health Care Costs
Washington, D.C. – Rep. John D. Dingell, Ranking Member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, repeated his call for affordable health care in response to a survey released today that found half of Americans are not satisfied with the costs of health insurance.
“Medical debt is one of the leading causes of personal bankruptcy, but instead of making the health care system more affordable for patients, the Republicans have made it more profitable for HMOs and health insurance companies,” said Rep. John D. Dingell, Ranking Member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce.
The 2006 Health Confidence Survey, which was conducted by the Employee Benefit Research Institute, found that 52 percent of Americans are not too satisfied or not at all satisfied with the costs of health insurance. Americans also said in the survey that affordability issues should be a top priority for Congress.
Dingell has introduced several pieces of legislation aimed at making health care more affordable, including the Medicare for All Act, the FamilyCare Act and the National Health Insurance Act.
