SUBCOMMITTEE ACTION

Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations

Wednesday, March 5, 2008  

The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations met in open session, a quorum being present, to authorize the issuance of a subpoena ad testificandum to Steven E. Mendell, President of Hallmark/Westland Meat Company, for testimony regarding the circumstances surrounding his company’s recent recall of over 143 million pounds of beef products after the United States Department of Agriculture determined the products were unfit for human consumption. The scheduled date of his testimony is Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in room 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. The Subcommittee took the following actions:

A motion offered by Rep. Stupak, that the Subcommittee authorize the issuance of a subpoena ad testificandum to Steven E. Mendell, President of Hallmark/Westland Meat Company, for testimony touching matters of inquiry committed to the Subcommittee, was agreed to by a yea-nay vote: 10 – 0.
