H.R. ____: Energy Advancement and Conservation Act of 2001, was considered.

Opening statements were made.

Ms. Eshoo asked unanimous consent that an article from the July 17, 2001, New York Times be included in the permanent record of the markup.  No objection was heard.

The following amendments were offered:

An amendment by Mr. Markey, #1, re: Nuclear Regulatory Commission meetings, was adopted by a voice vote;

An amendment by Mr. Strickland, #2, re: Portsmouth Cold Standby, was adopted by a yea-nay vote: 26-18;

An amendment by Mr. Sawyer, #3, re: transportation of nuclear waste, was withdrawn by unanimous consent;

A motion by Mr. Strickland to reconsider the vote on the Strickland amendment was withdrawn by unanimous consent.   Prior to withdrawal of the motion, a motion to table the Strickland motion to reconsider was defeated by a yea-nay vote: 24-26;

An amendment by Mr. Tauzin, #4, re: accelerated clean coal power production program, was adopted by a voice vote
