H.R. 2037, Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, was ORDERED FAVORABLY REPORTED to the House, AS AMENDED by the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection (May 9, 2002), by a yea-nay vote: 30-16.

The following amendments were offered:

An amendment by Mr. Waxman, #1, re: sale of firearms and/or ammunition product for use by member or suspected member of terrorist organization, was defeated by a yea-nay vote: 15-37;

An amendment by Mr. Engel, #2, re:  requiring locking devices on all firearms offered for sale (Safe Gun Sale Arms Act), was ruled not germane;

An amendment by Ms. DeGette, #3, re: fairness and equity of legal standards to which firerarm industry is held for purposes of interstate and foreign commerce (Legal Fairness for the Firearms Industry Act), was defeated by a voice vote.

H.R. 4701, Sports Agent Responsibility and Trust Act, was ORDERED FAVORABLY REPORTED, to the House, AS AMENDED by the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection (July 17, 2002), by a voice vote.

No amendments were offered during full committee consideration.

H.Res. 398, Recognizing the devastating impact of fragile X, urging increased funding for research on fragile X, and commending the goals of National Fragile X Research Day, and for other purposes, was ORDERED FAVORABLY REPORTED by unanimous consent.

No amendments were offered during full committee consideration.

H.R. ____, Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act, was ORDERED FAVORABLY REPORTED, amended, by a voice vote.  Chairman Tauzin ordered that a clean bill be introduced.

An amendment in the nature of a substitute by Mr. Tauzin, #1, was adopted, amended, by a voice vote;

An amendment by Mr. Engel, #1A, re: voluntary national standards that promote the interoperability of information technology systems involved with health care delivery - test their efficacy, usability, and scalability within a variety of clinical setting, including an urban academic medicla center, a rural hospital, a community health center, and a community hospital, was adopted by a voice vote.
