Statement of the Honorable John D. Dingell
On the Response from Beckel Cowan

Beckel Cowan today informs us that as many as half of the telegrams sent to Congress on the telecommunications bill may have been unauthorized. This extraordinary admission tells us that a great deal of money is being made in an elaborate game to con Members of Congress. The relationship between elected officials and their constituents is a sacred one. Democratic government requires confidence in the integrity of communications between the public and their elected representatives.

I look forward to a complete response from all parties involved in this repugnant episode, and will be communicating with NTS to obtain the full facts. This sordid practice must stop and I intend to pursue a legislative remedy if necessary.
