BACKGROUND: Earlier this week, the EPA announced plans to delay two of its controversial rules for certain boilers and incinerators. The decision to delay the effective date for the new rules came after significant congressional and stakeholder opposition to new rules published in March that together are projected by EPA to impact approximately 200,000 boiler and incinerator units located at manufacturing and industrial facilities, universities, hospitals, hotels and commercial buildings, and cost billions of dollars. By delaying the rules, EPA will be able to reconsider them and gather additional public input. Members of the Energy and Commerce Committee have been heavily engaged on this issue, urging the administration to rework the rules to develop more achievable standards. ?
