Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak today announced that the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, regarding reports that Anthem Blue Cross, a subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc., is increasing its premium rates by as much as 39% in the individual health insurance market in California.

Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak sent letters today to five automobile insurance companies requesting information regarding persistent consumer complaints of sudden unintended acceleration in vehicles manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation, and warnings the insurance companies may have provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about defect trends in Toyota vehicles.

On January 28, Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak announced the Committee will be holding a hearing on February 25, 2010, to examine the persistent consumer complaints of sudden unintended acceleration in vehicles manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak today requested clarification regarding several recent statements made by James E. Lentz, President and Chief Operating Officer of Toyota Motor Sales, USA, regarding the automaker's recent recall announcements.  The Committee is seeking clarification of Mr. Lentz's statements in light of information shared by Toyota officials during a January 27, 2010, meeting with Committee staff.

The Committee on Energy and Commerce will hold a hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2011 budget of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).   HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is scheduled to testify.

The Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet will hold a hearing titled, "An Examination of the Proposed Combination of Comcast and NBC Universal," on Thursday, February 4, 2010, in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building.  The hearing will explore the potential impact on the media marketplace of the proposed joint venture agreement between Comcast and NBC Universal.
