Following is a list of the Members of the full Committee on Commerce and each of its Subcommittees for the 106th Congress.  The full Committee approved Republican subcommittee assignments on January 7, 1999; Democratic subcommittee assignments were selected on January 20, 1999.

• In addition, the Republican Conference assigned Representative Thomas M. Davis, Virginia, to the Committee on Commerce, and placed him on sabbatical leave for the 106th Congress.  His committee seniority falls directly after Mr. Blunt.

Jurisdiction:  Interstate and foreign telecommunications including, but not limited to all telecommunication and information transmission by broadcast, radio, wire, microwave, satellite, or other mode; interstate and foreign commerce, including trade matters within the jurisdiction of the full committee; regulation of commercial practices (FTC); consumer affairs, and consumer protection in general; consumer product safety (the CPSC); and product liability; and motor vehicle safety.

Jurisdiction:  Securities, exchanges, and finance; solid waste, hazardous waste and toxic substances, including Superfund and RCRA (excluding mining, oil and gas, and coal combustion wastes); noise pollution control; insurance, except health insurance; and regulation of travel, tourism, and time.

Jurisdiction: Public health and quarantine; hospital construction; mental health and research; biomedical programs and health protection in general, including Medicaid and national health insurance; food and drugs; drug abuse; and Clean Air Act and environmental protection in general, including the Safe Drinking Water Act.

*  On March 15, 2000, the full Committee approved Mr. Boucher as Ranking Member of the Energy and Power Subcommittee and Mr. Hall as second in rank in the Democratic membership.  (Note: Mr. Boucher replaced Mr. Hall, who served as Ranking Member in 1999, because, under the rules of the Democratic Caucus, Mr. Hall was no longer eligible to be Ranking Member because he succeeded the late George Brown as Ranking Member of the full Committee on Science.)

Jurisdiction:  National energy policy generally; fossil energy, renewable energy resources and synthetic fuels; energy conservation; energy information; energy regulation and utilization; utility issues and regulation of nuclear facilities; interstate energy compacts; nuclear energy and waste; mining, oil, gas, and coal combustion wastes; and all laws, programs, and government activities affecting such matters.
