Measuring Success: What the President Will NOT Say About Obamacare

#BrokenPromises Have Undercut Health Care Peace of Mind of Millions of Americans

The president’s signature law has greatly undercut the health care peace of mind of millions of families and businesses all across the country. From cancelled health care plans to limited provider networks to premium rate shock, the very promises that this law was sold on have already been broken. And even in spite of to the administration’s frequent changes and delays to this law, these broken promises will continue.

With the health law’s six-month open enrollment period supposedly behind us, the president appears to be readying for a victory lap. But countless Americans who took the administration at its word only to find themselves worse off today because of the law will not be celebrating. Many questions remain. The administration has failed to answer who is enrolling for health care coverage and how many of them are only signing up because they lost their plans due to the president’s broken promise. Without details about how many enrollees were previously uninsured, it is impossible to measure the success or failure of this law. All that we can measure is if the administration has delivered on its promises. It is all too clear that it has not.

The president repeatedly promised, “If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. Nobody is going to take it away from you. No matter what. In reality, however, more than six million Americans received cancellation notices due to the president’s broken promise. While the administration boasts about “enrollment” figures, they refuse to answer the simple questions of how many people have actually completed the process by paying their first month’s premium and how many enrollees were previously uninsured. How many people signing up lost their health care plans as a result of the president’s broken promise? Don’t expect the president to answer this simple question today.

The president promised, “If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. But in reality, Americans across the country are losing access to their trusted physicians as this law continues to become a reality. The AP reports, “Only four of 19 nationally recognized comprehensive cancer centers that responded to AP’s survey said patients have access through all the insurance companies in their state exchange.”

The president promised, “We’ll lower premiums by up to $2,500 for a typical family per year, but CBS Cleveland reports, “The CEO of the Cleveland Clinic says that a majority of Americans who signed up for Obamacare have seen their premiums rise. ‘About three-quarters of them find that their premiums are higher than they have been previously with other insurance,’ Toby Cosgrove told Fox News.” Reuters adds, “U.S. consumers eligible for Obamacare health plans could see double-digit price hikes next year.”
