Wisconsin Braces for Health Premium Increases of Up to 125 Percent

According to a new report by FOX 11 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, “Starting Oct. 1, 500,000 Wisconsinites will have to shop for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act and according to the state’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, there will be drastic premium increases as a result.” The rate shock could be as much as 125 percent. The news in Wisconsin unfortunately mirrors the expected rate shock set to hit Georgia (198 percent), Ohio (88 percent), and Indiana (72 percent). The Energy and Commerce Committee has also chronicled the looming rate shock in store for millions of Americans as a result of the new law. As one insurer’s documents revealed, some new participants in the individual market could see a premium increase as high as 400 percent.
