Communications and Technology Subcommittee Leaders Welcome Successful Channel Sharing Test
House Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Vice Chairman Bob Latta (R-OH) today welcomed the successful result of a channel sharing trial conducted by two Los Angeles broadcasters, KLCS and KJLA with the help of CTIA – the Wireless Association. The test results show that broadcasters can share a single 6 MHz broadcast channel to provide more than one stream of HD programming.
“This trial shows that channel sharing among local broadcasters is a realistic and viable option to control expenses while continuing to play a vital role in their communities,” said Walden and Latta. “We applaud this collaboration and encourage pro-innovation efforts that provide concrete, actionable information so that broadcasters can meaningfully consider their options prior to the spectrum incentive auctions that were included in the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012.”
Full committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Walden expressed their support for the test in January.
