E&C Studio Presents: Energy Excuses vs. Energy Solutions

May 15, 2012

American families and businesses continue to struggle with high gas prices. High energy prices don’t just affect Americans at the pump, they contribute to the costs of products families consume every day. But instead of offering relief, the president has only offered excuses, blaming high prices on speculators and calling for higher taxes. In fact, the president’s policies have only made things worse by preparing layers of expensive new regulations and embargoing our own energy resources from ourselves.

House Republicans have a plan to reverse the president’s failed energy policies. Under the American Energy Initiative, the House has passed numerous pieces of legislation to help expand American energy production, lower energy prices, and reduce our dependency on Middle East oil. While world oil prices have begun to stabilize, the fight for affordable American energy is a long-term proposition that we must continue regardless of short-term price fluctuations. We are just one natural disaster or global conflict away from another price spike, which is why House Republicans have been working consistently to promote American energy solutions throughout the 112th Congress.

This week, the House Energy and Commerce Committee will consider two additional pieces of legislation under the American Energy Initiative. The Gasoline Regulations Act, authored by Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY), will help cut through the excessive red tape that is strangling American refiners. The Strategic Energy Production Act, introduced by Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO), will ensure the president does not draw down our nation’s emergency oil reserves without taking action to increase opportunities for American energy production on federal lands.
