Upton and Whitfield Welcome Supreme Court’s Review of EPA’s Regulatory Authority

October 15, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) today released the following statement after the Supreme Court agreed to hear challenges to the ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on the Environment Protection Agency’s regulation of greenhouse gases.

“We welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to consider challenges to EPA’s sweeping greenhouse gas regulations. This is about standing up for jobs and American workers. We remained concerned about how expansively EPA interprets its Clean Air Act authority and the regulatory consequences of the agency’s actions. EPA’s greenhouse gas regulations threaten to be the most burdensome and economically destructive rules in the agency’s history. We will continue our rigorous oversight of EPA to protect American jobs and prevent further regulatory overreach.”
