WASHINGTON, DC – Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR), Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Gregg Harper (R-MS) today sent a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regarding the Department’s ongoing non-compliance with federal requirements, outlined in the agency’s most recent financial audit for Fiscal Year 2017.
Chairmen Walden, Burgess, and Harper wrote, “As you begin your new role as Secretary of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, we wanted to bring to your earliest attention our concerns regarding the findings from Ernst & Young’s audit of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 financial statement and to request information on the remediation of violations of federal statute identified in the report.”
The leaders continued, “While we applaud the Department’s significant progress on remediating the issues identified by auditors in the past, we are disappointed that HHS remains in violation of several federal statutes and has not put forth a timeline for remediation.”
Detailing their specific concerns, the chairmen have asked HHS to share a timeline for completion of each action the Department plans to take, and to provide such information to the committee within 30 days.
