E&C Leaders on the IOC Barring Russia from the 2018 Winter Olympic Games

12.05.17

WASHINGTON, DC – Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR), Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chairman-Designate Gregg Harper (R-MS), and Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Chairman Bob Latta (R-OH) released the following statement on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decision to bar Russia from competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

“The widespread, systemic doping that has been exposed within the Russian Olympic team is disheartening, and goes against the spirit of competition and athletic achievement celebrated every Summer and Winter Games. The Olympics are meant to be a time for excitement and pride as nations cheer on their best athletes, and we are encouraged by the IOC’s strong stand in defense of clean sport. After holding a hearing this year examining the international anti-doping system, this committee remains dedicated to strengthening clean competition, and restoring the public’s confidence in international sports,” said Walden, Harper, and Latta.
