Members Will Hear from Businesses on How they are Integrating Wireless Connectivity to Generate New Opportunities and Better Serve Consumers
WASHINGTON, DC – The Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, chaired by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), today announced a hearing for Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Disrupter Series: Update on IOT Opportunities and Challenges.”
The Internet of Things (IOT) is rapidly revolutionizing industries and everyday life for Americans. These smart devices are optimizing everything from manufacturing and home appliances to health care and automobiles. Perhaps most notable for consumers; however, is that IOT offers consumers a variety of benefits, such as increased productivity and on-demand accurate information. Next week’s hearing allows our members to learn more about how businesses and consumers can benefit from innovative technology while also discussing the challenges ahead.
“The Internet of Things has been a monumental innovation for the economy – changing how companies conduct business operations and how consumers go about their day to day lives,” said Chairman Latta. “Integrating connected devices has helped a myriad of industries like healthcare, manufacturing and retail to share data in real time so they can increase efficiency and improve customer service. We are fortunate to have dozens of IOT-based businesses with us next week for the IOT Showcase, and I look forward to hearing from them about the opportunity and potential of this next-generation technology. Next week also allows for us to check in and ensure that industry is focusing on critical issues like cybersecurity.”
The Majority Memorandum, witness list, and witness testimony for the hearing will be available here as they are posted.
