Health Subcommittee to Hold Legislative Hearing on Cosmetics Reform
Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) announced today that the Health Subcommittee will hold a legislative hearing on Wednesday, December 4, at 10 am in 2322 Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled “Building Consumer Confidence by Empowering FDA to Improve Cosmetic Safety.”
“Americans assume that the cosmetics they use daily are safe, but that isn’t guaranteed,” Pallone and Eshoo said. “The truth is that these products are largely unregulated despite their widespread availability and popularity. Congress needs to reform the Food and Drug Administration’s regulatory authority over cosmetics to give consumers confidence that the products their families use every day are safe.”
Pallone and Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) released a bipartisan discussion draft earlier this year on a proposal that would modernize the Food and Drug Administration’s regulatory authority over cosmetic and personal care products.
Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, bill text, witness list, testimony and a live webcast will be posted HERE as they become available.
