Pallone on EPA PFAS Announcement

Feb 21, 2020
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today following the announcement from the Environmental Protection Agency that it will begin the process to regulate PFAS in drinking water:

“The Trump EPA’s proposed regulatory determination is, at best, little more than a half-step in the right direction.  If this Administration took PFAS contamination seriously, it would commit to implementing protections for more than just two chemicals — but it hasn’t.  If it was committed to protecting public health, it would set an interim drinking water standard — but it won’t.  What’s more, any drinking water standard it may eventually set is not guaranteed to be at a level that protects Americans’ health, because the Safe Drinking Water Act does not mandate that public health be the priority and we cannot trust this Administration to do the right thing unless the law demands it.”
