Pallone Responds to William Wehrum’s Departure from EPA
Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement that William Wehrum is stepping down as Assistant Administrator for the EPA Office of Air and Radiation. Pallone and other Committee leaders launched an investigation in April of the Utility Air Regulatory Group (UARG):
“William Wehrum’s departure comes as welcome news for all those who value EPA’s mission of protecting public health and the environment. Much like UARG suddenly dissolving in the face of scrutiny, Wehrum is now suddenly leaving amidst investigations into his potential ethical misconduct – investigations that should, and will, continue.
“Thankfully, his second stint at the agency has proved as short and unsuccessful as his first. While all of his proposed rules are dangerous, it’s unlikely that any of them will survive judicial review. EPA should use this opportunity to hit reset on its agenda and refocus on protecting the health and environment of the American people.”
