Chairs Rodgers and Johnson Announce Subcommittee Markup on Three Bills to Beat China and Ensure Affordable Transportation for Americans
Washington, D.C. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee Chair Bill Johnson (R-OH) today announced a markup of three bills to preserve transportation choice, ensure affordability for the American people, and to prevent the Biden administration from ceding America’s automotive industry to China.
“President Biden and Democrats are forcing Americans to transition to electric vehicles within the next decade, while also imposing higher costs on the current vehicles and fuels that a majority of people use every single day. Imposing top-down government mandates that force a premature transition will only make life more unaffordable, limit people’s transportation choices, and further strengthen China’s foothold in the American auto industry. If we continue down this road, it could lead to vehicles from China being one of the only affordable options left for Americans by 2032. We look forward to discussing solutions to increase people's choices and access to affordable transportation and ensure America, not China, is leading our automotive future.”
