Chairs Rodgers, Griffith Announce Oversight Hearing on Broadband Deployment

Washington, D.C. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chair Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today announced a subcommittee hearing titled “Closing the Digital Divide: Overseeing Federal Funds for Broadband Deployment.” The hearing will take place on Wednesday, May 10.

Chairs Rodgers and Griffith released the following statement:

"Billions of taxpayer dollars have been allocated to broadband deployment in recent years. Last Congress’ Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act alone provided more than $45 billion for broadband deployment. This is on top of the existing Universal Service Fund at the Federal Communications Commission that distributes over $8 billion annually for broadband and other connectivity programs. Americans deserve every assurance these resources are truly going to help the unserved communities that need them most. We look forward to this discussion to ensure there is robust oversight over broadband funding to minimize risks of waste, fraud, and abuse. Resources must go where they are needed so we can close the digital divide once and for all.”
