WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman (D-CA), Senate HELP Committee Chairman Tom Harkin (D-IA), and Ranking Member Mike Enzi (R-WY) today announced a bipartisan agreement on the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act, S 3187, which reauthorizes Food and Drug Administration user fees to ensure the continuation of various FDA programs and the creation of new ones to facilitate the review and approval of life-saving and life-improving drugs and medical devices.

WASHINGTON, DC - President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency today announced its new proposal to tighten national standards for fine particulate matter. EPA has proposed revisions to lower the annual standard from 15 micrograms per cubic meter to a new standard of 12 to 13 micrograms per cubic meter, and to make certain other revisions to the current standards.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today the State Department published in the Federal Register the Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare a Supplemental EIS (SEIS) for the second Keystone XL Presidential Permit application. The SEIS will supplement the State Department’s FIES issued last August, which found the pipeline will have limited adverse environmental impacts.

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) today announced that Michael Beckerman, the panel’s Deputy Staff Director and a longtime Upton adviser since 2001, will depart the committee at the end of June. Beckerman joined the committee as Deputy Staff Director with the opening of the 112th Congress; prior to that, he served as Upton’s Policy Director since 2007, with a tenure on Capitol Hill that spans more than 12 years. Beckerman has been tapped to create a new Internet project based in D.C.
