Chairs Rodgers, Griffith Announce Subcommittee Hearing with DOE Official on Oversight of President Biden’s Spending Spree

Washington, D.C. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chair Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today announced a subcommittee hearing titled “Microvast and More: Oversight of President Biden’s Energy Spending Spree.” 

The Chairs issued the following statement:

“President Biden’s rush-to-green agenda will damage our economy, make our supply chains more reliant on China, and raise costs on Americans. This hearing will provide our committee with an opportunity to address our many concerns with the Department’s Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains’ ability to strengthen our energy supply chains, address national security threats in the energy sector, and responsibly administer billions of dollars of funding as a new program office.”

The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations hearing is titled “Microvast and More: Oversight of President Biden’s Energy Spending Spree.” 

WHAT: A subcommittee hearing to discuss the impact of federal programs and policies on the domestic energy sector supply chain, including concerning awards decisions.

NOTE:  

  • The Department of Energy declined to provide a witness to a May 23, 2023, hearing titled "Growing the Domestic Energy Sector Supply Chain and Manufacturing Base: Are Federal Efforts Working?" 
  • News of the Department of Energy’s decision not to move forward with a planned grant to Microvast broke the night before the hearing, but the Department has not provided any answers to the Committee as to why the decision was made.
