Washington, D.C. — House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) responded to the Biden Administration’s effort to establish a ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and urged Democrats to abandon their censorship mission.  

“The Biden Administration's ongoing pursuit to institutionalize censorship is incredibly alarming and un-American. This is the type of behavior we’ve come to expect from a foreign dictator to destroy freedom and control speech. The new Disinformation Governance Board is the Administration’s latest attempt to arbitrate truth and puts our Constitution and the free speech rights of Americans at risk. For the future of our democracy, it is vital that Democrats abandon their censorship mission. The answer to speech you disagree with should always be more speech, not less.” 

The new Disinformation Governance Board is just the latest in an ongoing effort to censor Americans.  

In March 2022, Republican leaders sent a letter to the Surgeon General regarding the Health and Human Services agency’s efforts to collude with Big Tech and censor Americans. 

In July 2021, Rodgers—with the support of 189 House GOP members—led a letter to the Biden Administration demanding an end to the Administration’s efforts to pressure private companies to censor speech.
