POTUS Signs Landmark Opioid Legislation Into Law
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Donald Trump signed into law H.R. 6, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, a bipartisan legislative package to combat the opioid crisis, authored by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR).
Chairman Walden and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) today issued the following statement after President Donald Trump signed this historic bill into law.
“Today is about the patients and communities across the country who are suffering from the devastation of opioid addiction. This landmark legislation is the culmination of months of bipartisan work to combat the opioid crisis from every angle. H.R. 6 brings critical support to the communities most desperately in need, provides new tools and resources for those on the front lines of this crisis, and helps stop the flow of deadly drugs across our borders. Rarely can we say that legislation will save lives, but there is no doubt that H.R. 6 will do just that. While there is more work to be done, we are proud of the important step forward our nation is taking today,” said Chairman Walden and #SubHealth Chairman Burgess.
