Upton and Pallone Applaud FDA’s Creation of an Oncology Center
WASHINGTON, DC – House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and full committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today welcomed the FDA’s creation of an Oncology Center of Excellence. The announcement came as part of Vice President Biden’s cancer moon shot initiative.
“Throughout the 21st Century Cures process we’ve seen that success is possible when we work together. This announcement is further proof of just that,” said Upton and Pallone. “This is something where the stars have truly aligned, and we’re now putting this plan into action, ensuring that greater coordination can take place to help solve the greatest challenges to those battling cancer. We continue to make great progress on the #Path2Cures – the growing momentum continues to bring us closer to #CuresNow for all patients.”
Earlier this month, Upton and Pallone introduced H.R. 5414, the FDA Cross-Center Collaboration Act of 2016. The bipartisan bill continues on the #Path2Cures by modernizing the agency to help streamline the review of drugs and devices for major disease areas across product centers. Today’s announcement by the vice president on the FDA’s Oncology Center of Excellence is consistent with H.R. 5414, which helps to accelerate the discovery, development and delivery of cures.
