Washington, D.C. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee Chair Buddy Carter (R-GA) announced a legislative hearing titled “Safeguarding American Prosperity and People’s Livelihoods: Legislation to Modernize Air Quality Standards.”

“Changes to National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) have consequences across the entire economy—from manufacturing, transportation, construction, housing, to agriculture—and for communities around the country. Recent efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including this week’s new PM 2.5 standards, could force American manufacturing overseas, jeopardizing hundreds of billions of dollars in U.S. economic activity and millions of American jobs," said Chairs Rodgers and Carter. "This hearing will be an opportunity to discuss common sense solutions that modernize the EPA’s air quality standards process to build on the U.S.’s decades of success in reducing air pollutants without harming America’s economic prosperity and people’s livelihoods.”
