Support for H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales Act

Here’s what experts and top voices are saying ahead of today’s House vote on H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act. Led by Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA), the CARS Act stops President Biden’s agenda to force Americans to drive electric vehicles, which will cede our auto future to China.

Americans for Prosperity:

“While many Americans are excited about the growing number of EVs that have come to market in recent years, these vehicles still may not suit the needs of every driver. Like the transportation innovations of the past, EVs must earn their place on America's roads by giving their owners more for less. They should not be forced on the American people through federal mandates. For these reasons, I again urge you to support H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales Act.”

American Petroleum Institute:

“EPAs proposed rule infringes on consumer choice and, if implemented, would greatly restrict Americans’ freedom to decide what vehicle best suits their transportation needs. Additionally, the proposed rule could have negative impacts on our nation’s grid reliability due to the increase in power demand required for the electrification of a large portion of the U.S. transportation fleet.

“API supports The CARS Act and its goal of protecting consumer choice while providing Americans with the transportation options on which they depend.”

Americans for Tax Reform:

“The tailpipe emissions standards proposed by the EPA are just one part of an aggressive series of attacks on consumer choice from Biden’s environmental regulators. Earlier this year, Congress had to pass legislation opposing the Biden administration’s proposed bans on gas stoves. Other strict regulations targeting refrigerators, air conditioners, dishwashers, clothes washers, dryers, and even ceiling fans have been introduced by the Biden administration, in addition to the restrictions proposed for gas-powered vehicles.

“Members of Congress should support passage of H.R. 4468 / S. 3094, the CARS Act, to preserve consumer choice in the vehicle market.”

Heritage Action for America:

“We must preserve consumer choice, maintain safety, and enable healthy competition in auto markets by ensuring Americans have access to reliable and affordable vehicles. The Biden administration continues restricting an individual’s agency by effectively mandating a sales ban on combustion engine vehicles, instead favoring ‘zero-emission vehicles.’ We commend Reps. Walberg and Clyde for leading H.R. 4468, pushing back against Biden’s gas car ban agenda.”

Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association

“The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) is the largest trade association representing the views of small-business truckers and professional truck drivers. OOIDA has approximately 150,000 members located in all fifty states that collectively own and operate about 240,000 individual heavy-duty trucks.

“We are writing to express our support for H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act, and encourage Representatives to support this legislation when it is brought to the House Floor for a vote. This legislation would help ensure the continued availability of engine technologies that small-business truckers depend on for their livelihoods and are necessary to keep our supply chain functioning.”

Taxpayers Protection Alliance:

“Additional costs on taxpayers will come when the energy grid can no longer support the burden that comes with charging EVs. California alone, the state from which many of these fiscally and logistically negligent policies derive, will have to spend upwards of $50 billion by 2035 to upgrade its distribution grid to cope with EVs.

“Heavy-handed, carrot-and-stick government intervention in the U.S. automobile industry and consumer markets to advance unproven technology remains an egregious use of regulatory power. We encourage members to support the CARS Act and reign in the runaway EPA.”
